Fabulous Adjectives~

Today we're going to learn Adjectives. An adjective is often defined as a word which describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun.  Adjectives describe nouns in terms of such qualities as size, colour, number, and kind. There are few rules in using Adjectives in terms of usage and order.

1)  We usually put an adjective before the noun that it describes. For examples:

The guilty party accepted the punishment quietly.
He was a model student in school.
She gave him an angry look.
The lazy, old, brown dog sat on the rug.

2)  We use adjective after the verb ‘to be’. For examples:

His voice is loud and clear.
The dress was pretty but expensive.
The day was windy.

3)  After the words ‘seem’, ‘appear’, ‘look’, ‘become’ and ‘grow’, the adjective comes after the noun. For examples:

He looked very pale when he came out of the hospital.
She became rich after inheriting her uncle’s property.
That woman seems angry with you.

4)  Many adjectives are used with prepositions such as:

He is famous for his generosity to orphans.
I was surprised at the value of those paintings.
It was fortune that he was honest with you.
He is very proud of his achievements.

5)  Sometimes, when we use two or more adjectives, we do not know which adjective should come first. We should put them in the order of:
                     i.        Quality of appearance
                   ii.        Shape or size
                  iii.        Colour
                  iv.        Material

For example: The lazy, old, brown dog sat on the beautiful, expensive, new rug.

Now, lets do some relaxing exercise. I have provided interesting pictures that you can use to describe by using adjectives. Any possible answers are accepted as long as they are relevance. Happy learning :)..
